Not long now until VMworld Europe 2009 in Cannes (24th - 26th Feb). Unfortunately for me the credit crunch means I’m not going to be able to attend this year. I’m going to have to rely on some of my fellow virtualisation bloggers to provide those great real time blog updates they’ve been so good at doing at previous VMworlds.
So VMware have now announced the keynote speakers for this years show as you can see from this recent press release.
FRIMLEY, UK and PALO ALTO, Calif. – January 14, 2009 — VMware, Inc. (NYSE: VMW), the global leader in virtualization solutions from the desktop to the datacenter, today announced that nine of the IT industry’s leading vendors have confirmed their participation at VMworld Europe 2009 as Platinum sponsors of the event. At the same time, the company announced that keynote addresses at the event will be headed by Paul Maritz, President and CEO of VMware; Dr. Stephen Herrod, Chief Technology Officer, VMware; and Dr. Wolfgang Krips, Managing Director, SAP Hosting.
I recall one keynote from VMworld 2007 in San Francisco by Cisco’s chairman John Chambers. He gave a superb and captavating talk, he oozed confidence and you could tell he was one of these people that can and will shape the direction of the Industry. Now I’ve not had the chance to hear Paul Maritz speak before but if Chuck Hollis at EMC is to be believed he seems to have the same effect. Be sure to check him out and let me know if he was as good as Chuck says.
Personal note: if you ever have a chance to go see Paul speak on technology topics, you should make the effort. He has this way of making complex topics simple and accessible, as well as bending the space-time continuum around him in a powerful way. And I’m no easy grader.
The labs at VMworld have always been very popular, often it pays to ensure your booked up well in advance to avoid disappointment. This year VMworld will be introducing self service labs as opposed to the instructor led labs that have been present at previous VMworlds, check out the video below for more information.
To all those attending, I am extremely jealous. Enjoy it you lucky, lucky people :o)
